In a formal letter dated 30 June 2025 and signed by SWAN Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the association, led by Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, hailed Mr. Adeniyi’s victory in Brussels as a defining achievement that exemplifies his dedication, passion, and professional integrity.
SWAN noted that Mr. Adeniyi’s leadership has significantly contributed to the rapid growth and enhanced global standing of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“This historic feat, which makes you the first Nigerian to lead the 73-year-old WCO, comprising 186 member countries, is a testament to your competence and integrity,” the letter states.
“Your emergence as Chairperson of the highest decision-making body in global customs administration underscores the confidence that nations around the world have in your leadership abilities.”
The association further commended Mr. Adeniyi for exhibiting remarkable competence during his brief tenure as Comptroller-General, asserting that his global influence and visionary leadership garnered the trust of the countries that endorsed his candidacy for this pivotal role.
SWAN expressed optimism that Mr. Adeniyi will continue to set new benchmarks in leadership and assured him of the association’s readiness to collaborate in leveraging sports as a platform to connect with the wider Nigerian populace.
“As sports journalists, we believe you will continue to pave the way in your professional capacity, serving as a beacon for greater achievements to come.”
“We reiterate our commitment to working alongside you as you utilise sports to engage a larger segment of the Nigerian populace.
“Congratulations once again. We wish you a tenure as WCO Chairperson that is as remarkable and inspiring as your distinguished record of service across all areas you have influenced,” the letter concluded.
