A civic advocacy group, the Action Collective, has praised the Nigerian judiciary for declaring the suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, by the Senate as unconstitutional and illegal, describing the verdict as a bold affirmation of judicial independence and a beacon of hope for oppressed citizens.

LEADERSHIP reports that the ruling, delivered by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court on Friday, ordered the immediate reinstatement of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, whose suspension had sparked national controversy and drawn criticism from civil society groups.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 4, 2025, and signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Teddy Onyejuwe, the Action Collective said the judgement underscored the strength of the judiciary in checking institutional excesses and upholding democratic values.

“This ruling is a major victory not just for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, but for all Nigerians who continue to suffer from arbitrary decisions by public institutions,” Onyejuwe stated.

“It sends a strong message that justice is still possible in Nigeria, even in the face of power, privilege, and political influence. The court has once again shown courage, integrity, and commitment to the Constitution.”

The group further described the court’s decision as a crucial reminder that no arm of government or public institution is above the law.

“The judgment reinforces public confidence in the judiciary and will serve as a deterrent to institutions that may be tempted to act beyond the law,” the statement added.

The Action Collective also urged public officials and legislative bodies to respect the rule of law and remain within the boundaries defined by the Nigerian Constitution. It warned that the judiciary would not hesitate to hold institutions accountable, regardless of status or parliamentary privilege.
