The Lagos State Ministries of Youth and Social Development, and Tourism, Arts and Culture, together with the University of Lagos Faculty of Arts, Federal College of Education Akoka, and the African Creative Artist Network, have joined forces to host a youth-focused entertainment and empowerment event titled “Lagos Street Photo Walk Nigeria.”
According to the organisers, the event aims to equip youths with self-sufficient artistic skills in photography.
The Lagos Street Photo Walks was officially launched at the University of Lagos Faculty of Creative Arts Hall in Akoka, Lagos, with much fanfare during the “World Photography Day Press Conference.”
Mr. Richard Idowu, who represented the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Sala A.I,
stated that the ministry is partnering with the organisers to engage young creatives, particularly students and emerging photographers, in using photography as a tool for self-expression, entrepreneurship, and youth-driven social and economic development.
The Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts at UNILAG and chair of the event,
Prof. Mudashiru, urged creative artists and photographers to consciously showcase the best of Nigeria to the world. He emphasized the importance of countering negative perceptions and promoting youth empowerment through self-sufficiency in the art of photography.
Celebrated award-winning video producer Segun Ajayi, the project coordinator, told LEADERSHIP Weekend at the unveiling that Lagos Street Photo Walk 2025 is “a vital initiative for cultural and creative youth empowerment, aimed at fostering self-sufficiency through the art of photography.”
He added that the event will coincide with the celebration of World Photography Day on August 19, 2025. “This year’s core vision is to empower youth through visual storytelling. The cultural showcase will highlight Lagos’s rich cultural and urban identity, featuring cultural experts from Nigeria and beyond, photo exhibitions, fashion shoots, music performances, spoken word, and street art, creating a vibrant visual journey,” Ajayi explained.
