The chairman of the Governing Council of Mufutau Lanihun College of Education, Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof Taslim Hammed, has condemned a fraud amounting to several millions of naira allegedly perpetrated by some principal officers of the institution.
The officers who had been arrested by the police were alleged to have issued the college certificate to non-graduates.
In a statement personally signed by the chairman of the council, the provost, Mr Lawal Ayodele, the registrar, Mr Adebolu Sirajudeen, Burdar Akanji Abdulrasak, and the admission officer, Jimoh Malik, were alleged to be complicit in the scam.
According to Hammed, the quartet has been suspended in accordance with the institution’s rules, and they will be processed to face the institution’s disciplinary committee.
The chairman noted that the arrest and detention by the police of some college staff members was considered a disturbing incident at the council emergency meeting held on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
“The council at its meeting under reference, established the fact that staff involved in the criminal act did so on their own volition without the knowledge of the proprietor and the Governing Council”
The proprietor and the Board would carry out an immediate audit of the institution.
“The board also resolved to cooperate fully with JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board), Nigerian Police, Oyo State Command and other security agencies in their investigation and prosecution of the suspended persons (staff and students)
“Our college commends all the ongoing reforms and developmental efforts being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB in the Nigerian education sector,” he said.
