Kaduna State Subsidised Transport Scheme (KSTS) will commence free transport services for civil servants, retirees and students today.
The director-general (DG) of Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Inuwa Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement titled: “Civil servants, retirees, and students will enjoy free rides for the first six months.”
He clarified that this initiative would also benefit students of public and private schools, from primary to tertiary level.
Inuwa added that thereafter, a 60 percent transport fare subsidy would be available to the general public.
The DG said the gesture underscored Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants, senior citizens and students in the state.
Inuwa, who said some of the buses would start plying the road today, warned that the free transport service would operate strictly in accordance with order, security, and efficient service delivery.
The statement added civil servants would be ‘’granted access to the buses upon the presentation of a valid staff identity cards and a matching National Identification Number, (NIN) to prevent misuse and ensure that only genuine government workers enjoy the free bus service.
The statement further clarified that ‘’students from both public and private schools will be allowed to board the buses, provided they are in their complete school uniforms. Upon proper identification, all personnel of recognised security agencies are eligible to access the buses.
