A South-South-based non governmental organisation, Niger Delta Media Activists Group and Excellent Leadership Foundation has urged President Bola Tinubu to implement the gas vision of former minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, for the nation.
The group, in a statement felicitating with Sylva on his 61st birthday today, said the former pe minister’s vision leveraged on utilising the abundant gas resources for economic development, industrialisation and renewable energy goals.
The statement signed by the national coordinator of the organisation, Chief Izzi Yakiah, recalled Sylva’s bold role in ensuring the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) became a reality under the Muhammadu Buhari presidency.
Noting that the former Bayelsa governor is committed to President Bola Tinubu “Renewed Hope Agenda”, the NGO likened Sylva’s political philosophy of loyalty and focus to a democrat that believes in the new Nigeria project.
He further noted Sylva’s “model of empowerment, capacity building of young people and his administrative prowess during the era of militancy in the Niger Delta, leading to consistent attack on critical national assets that laid the foundation for effective surveillance of oil and gas facilities in the creeks of the Niger Delta region, leading to the rise in daily oil production.
On the party front, the statement said Sylva’s visionary leadership has brought growth, stability and structure to the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State.
Yakiah said, “Sylva is a face of opposition politics in the Ijaw homogenous State that uses his influence to facilitate strategic appointments for Ijaw people in the struggle when he served as Governor from 2007-2012 and Minister of Petroleum under President Muhammadu Buhari administration.”
