According to Comrade Usman Okai Austin, a vocal political figure and former House of Representatives candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emerged as Nigeria’s most formidable opposition party.

In a statement yesterday, Okai declared that the ADC has overtaken the PDP and Labour Party (LP) in terms of national influence and strategic strength.

He described the party’s rise as a “child of necessity,” born from Nigerians’ growing frustration with traditional opposition parties and a mounting demand for fresh, transformative leadership.

“The ADC is now positioned to provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027,” Okai said.

A wave of high-profile defections has recently strengthened the ADC’s profile, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai reportedly joining its ranks.

These defections mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics, hinting at a unified front poised to challenge the APC’s dominance.

To further solidify its structure, the party appointed former Senate President David Mark as interim National Chairman and ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

Political observers see these appointments as a move to inject experience and legitimacy into the ADC, though questions remain over the stability of its newly formed coalition.

Okai emphasised that the party’s rise is not just about electoral ambition but about reshaping governance and strengthening democracy.

“The ADC is committed to economic reform, national unity, and restoring public trust in democratic institutions,” he said.
