The directive followed increasing cult-related activities in the state.
‎
‎Commissioner for Information in the state, Okey Kanu stated this at a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting in Umuahia, the state capital.
‎
‎Kanu, who said the meeting was chaired by Governor Alex Otti, reiterated the government stand against any forms of crime and anti-social activities in the state.
‎
‎”The state government has observed with dismay, the growing incidence of cult activities in the state.
‎
‎”As a responsible government, this administration will spread no efforts in ensuring that the state is rid of criminal activities,” the commissioner said.
‎
‎Kanu also announced a $5,000 support by Governor Otti for a 15-year old girl from the state, Grace Nkpa, who won a TechGirls 2025 contest to represent the state in the United States.
‎
‎He disclosed further that the government had begun paying the owed salaries for workers of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, who were disengaged between 2018 and 2022, by the previous administration.
‎
‎”So far, 249 of such staff have been paid,” Kanu said, stressing that the government was also making impacts at the Abia State College of Education Technical (ASCETA ), Arochukwu.
‎
‎”Other projects such as the college library, school of vocational education block, college auditorium, students’ hostels, and school of technical education are all progressing very well,” he said.
