At a tree-planting campaign to commemorate the 2025 World Environment Day, held at the College of Education (Technical), Dass, the chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, emphasised the crucial role of youths in driving environmental sustainability.

According to him, the youths are the leaders of tomorrow and need a safe and healthy planet to inherit.

“Our land is our future. So are the generations our future. They need to be restored,” she said.
She highlighted that climate change poses a serious threat to both children and the environment, stressing the importance of engaging young people in climate actions, including tree planting and conservation efforts.
“Youth are the pillar of communities and nations. If they are involved, everything will go well.

They are the energy of the future, and they must be well-aware, engaged, and on the right path to reach their full potential,” she added.

Rafique noted that UNICEF supports youth engagement through various platforms, including WASH programs and climate change initiatives, all of which aim to promote environmental sustainability and tree-planting culture among young people.

She further called for continuous participation in tree planting and environmental conservation efforts, stating, “We want youth and communities to grow plants every day, and that should continue for years to come.”

The chairman of Dass local government area, Mohammad Abubakar Jibo, commended UNICEF and its partners, RUWASA and ACRESAL, for supporting the campaign.

Jibo described the campaign as a major step in advancing environmental sustainability within the community.

Jibo demonstrated his dedication to environmental conservation saying, “We must work together to protect our environment and ensure a livable future for generations to come.”

“I commend the efforts of Dass College of Education and our development partners for organising this initiative,” Jibo said.
