Chelle Takes Charge As Super Eagles Begin Training For 2025 CHAN

Preparations for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 officially commenced on Monday, with 21 players reporting to the Super Eagles B Camp in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State. The training session, held under floodlights at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, marked the team’s inaugural training under the new head coach, Eric Sekou Chelle, who recently announced a 35-man provisional squad for the continental competition.

The session commenced at 7 p.m during which Chelle put the players through a light workout in anticipation of the remaining 14 players expected in the camp yesterday.

Among the early arrivals were Nduka Junior (Remo Stars), Harrison Austin (Ikorodu City FC), Lawal Mustapha (Shooting Stars), Abdulrafiu Taiwo (Rivers United), and Temitope Vincent (Plateau United). Other players in attendance included Adedayo Olanipekun (Remo Stars), Shola (Ikorodu City), Nurudeen Badmos (Kwara United), Sadiq Ismail (Remo Stars), Taofeek Otaniyi (Rivers United), Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars), and Ani Henry (Rivers United).

Also present were Egbe Stephen (Rivers United), Atule Joseph (Enyimba FC), Tochukwu Michael (Remo Stars), Aniekeme Okon (Rivers United), and Ayomide Cole (Ikorodu City FC). The list of early arrivals was rounded off by Sikiru Alimi (Remo Stars), Afeez Bankole (Kwara United), Leonard Ngenge (Ikorodu City FC), and Hadi Haruna (Remo Stars).

Nigeria, the runners-up in the 2018 edition of CHAN, will compete in Group D of the 19-nation tournament. The Super Eagles are grouped alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.

They are scheduled to play their first two matches against Senegal and Sudan at the Amman Stadium on Zanzibar Island, with their final group encounter against Congo taking place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
