Rotary Club of Ikoyi, District 9112, has donated neonatal intensive care equipment to the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital and safety gear to the Federal Fire Service, Ikoyi, to boost emergency response and healthcare outcomes in the state.

The donation, which includes firefighter bunker gear, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), a water borehole, personal protective equipment (PPE), and phototherapy equipment, is expected to enhance fire preparedness and neonatal care in the city.

At the handover event, Clare Omatseye, president of the Rotary Club of Ikoyi, said that after conducting a needs assessment with the hospital, the club provided phototherapy equipment for jaundiced and preterm babies.

“We have found a partner in the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital who truly wants to make a difference despite facing significant challenges. After conducting a needs assessment with the hospital, we provided phototherapy equipment for jaundiced and preterm babies and devices to help newborns breathe better. Every life counts, and at Rotary, we want to ensure every life is valued.”

Omatseye emphasised that the partnership with the hospital was beginning. Plans for further support include training for nurses on neonatal resuscitation and proper birthing techniques.
