The Unified Nigeria Youth Forum (UNYF) has criticized the recently formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a gathering of recycled political figures disconnected from the aspirations of Nigerians.
In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Toriah Olajide Filani, the forum said the coalition—which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Senate President David Mark—lacks credibility and vision.
“These are the same individuals who have shaped Nigeria’s political and socio-economic direction since 1999. Many of them have been associated with past governments that failed to deliver meaningful change,” the statement read.
UNYF further alleged that several members of the coalition have been linked to corruption investigations and questioned their commitment to national renewal.
“This coalition is not people-driven. It is an elite arrangement by individuals seeking to regain lost political relevance,” Filani added.
As an alternative, UNYF announced plans to unveil a new youth-led political movement in September. According to the group, the proposed platform will focus on transparency, justice, and national unity.
“We are building a principled coalition rooted in values, not personal ambition. It will be formally launched in Kaduna and will include young leaders from across the six geopolitical zones,” Filani said.
He added that consultations with student bodies, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, and professional groups are ongoing to build a truly inclusive and people-oriented platform.
UNYF emphasized that its movement would prioritize national unity and generational leadership renewal.
