Nigeria international Victor Boniface has disclosed that he turned down a lucrative offer to join an English Premier League club in the past.
The 24-year-old, currently starring for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, stated that he is not keen on the Premier League due to the pressure associated with playing in such high-stakes teams.
On The Culture League podcast, Boniface explained, “I don’t really like the Premier League — not that I wouldn’t take the opportunity if it arose, but it would have to be to a specific kind of team.”
He emphasised the importance of aligning with a club’s style of play and the pressures of competition. Boniface, who had an impressive season in Belgium before joining Leverkusen, noted that despite attractive offers from England, he preferred to avoid clubs that demand performance under intense pressure.
