Victor Osimhen was absent from training yesterday as Serie A champions Napoli resumed preparations, with the Nigerian striker engaged in negotiations to join Turkish club Galatasaray on a permanent basis.
In a statement, Napoli confirmed: “The players met at the training centre for medical examinations and physical tests. Victor Osimhen was absent and provided a medical certificate.”

A key player in Napoli’s title-winning campaign in 2023, Osimhen spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, where he netted 26 goals in 30 league appearances, helping the Istanbul club secure their 25th Super Lig title.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte appears to have no immediate plans for the 26-year-old as he prepares for the upcoming Scudetto defence. However, Napoli have indicated they will not part with Osimhen for less than €75 million (£64 million).

Negotiations with Galatasaray, which have been ongoing for several weeks, continue to face obstacles concerning the terms of payment for the transfer. Napoli have recently signed Kevin De Bruyne from Premier League club Manchester City, but the 34-year-old Belgian was not among the players who reported for training on Monday.
