The chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Taraba State chapter who is also the chairman of Jalingo local government area, Hon. Aminu Jouro, has debunked a recent report attributed to chairman Gasol LGA Hon. Abubakar Sadique that there was a kidnap attempt on him at his private residence in Jalingo, the state capital.
Jouro in a press statement he issued yesterday, said there was no kidnap attempt on Sadique in Jalingo as reported by the media recently.
LEADERSHIP gathered that there was media report on July 10, 2025 that unknown armed men invaded the residence of Sadique in an attempt to kidnap him which was aborted by the police. The residence is located in GRA,near ALGON House in Jalingo.
In his statement, Jouro said the police preliminary investigation could not trace the kidnapping attempt as it was reported by the media and attributed to the Gasol LGA boss.
“The Taraba State Police Command has debunked reports of an alleged attempted kidnapping of the Chairman of Gassol Local Government Council, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq, describing the alarm raised by the Chairman as false and misleading. The Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has employed non-kinetic approach to eliminate criminal elements in Jalingo and the state at large.
“The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 10, 2025, sparked fear and confusion among residents when news broke that suspected kidnappers had targeted the Chairman at his residence in Jalingo.
“In a swift clarification, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, James Lashen Saminu, issued a statement confirming that no kidnapping attempt took place. According to the police report, the Chairman Gasol LGA placed a distress call at about 3:15 a.m., claiming he noticed suspicious movements around his home, located near ALGON House in Jalingo.
“The DPO of GRA Division and his patrol team responded immediately and arrived at the location, But no suspects were found, and there was no direct contact between any individuals and the chairman.”
Jouro further disclosed that the police investigations revealed that no break-in occurred, nor was any credible indication of an actual kidnap attempt. “The Command emphasized that the Chairman’s alarm did not meet the threshold for a criminal offence such as attempted kidnapping.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Simon Bretet, expressed concern over the false report, which he said could undermine public confidence in the state’s improving security situation. He assured residents that the police remain vigilant and committed to securing lives and property across Taraba.
Meanwhile, the chairman, Gasol local government council Hon Abubakar Sadique told LEADERSHIP that even though there were some unknown persons trying to invade his house on the 10th of July which made him to call the police, he has never for once addressed any journalist, raising alarm that the people were kidnappers.
