Sokoto Mobilises For Measles-Rubella Vaccination

Governor of Sokoto State Ahmed Aliyu has called on traditional, religious, health, and community leaders to support the Measles-Rubella Vaccine exercise.

The governor made the call at the flag-off of the state’s sensitisation campaign on measles and rubella Vaccine held at Banquet Hall, Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.

Represented by the deputy governor, Engr Idris Gobir, he said measles and rubella are highly contagious diseases that can cause deafness, blindness, heart defects, brain damage and even death in children.

He, however, said the measles-rubella vaccine provides safe and effective protection.

He assured of the government’s continued investment in immunisation programmes and enhanced access to essential healthcare services.

In her remarks, the first lady of the state, Dr Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, appealed to the wives of chairmen of local government councils to extend the sensitisation programme in their respective areas.

Dr Fatima Ahmed Aliyu said this is aimed at ensuring that all eligible children received the vaccines.

In his welcome address, the commissioner for Health, Dr Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, expressed appreciation with the support being received by the ministry from the state government.
