The Kano/Jigawa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NIS) has intercepted 420kg pangolin scales in a suburb of Kano Metropolis.

Briefing Journalists on Thursday evening at the Command’s headquarters in Kano, the Area Controller, Controller Dalhatu Abubakar, said one person has been arrested for alleged involvement in the illegal activity.

According to Controller Abubakar, a joint operation by the Command’s Special Wildlife Office, Intelligence Unit, and the Police Unit through a combine expertise and vigilance intercepted the scales on July 16, 2025, around 7 p.m.

The Controller said the operation aimed to combat illicit international trade in wildlife and associated crimes while protecting valuable species, protecting natural resources and mitigating threats to biodiversity, ecological balance, and national security.
