Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has praised President Bola Tinubu for immortalising the late former President Muhammadu Buhari by renaming the University of Maiduguri in Borno State after him.

Alausa, in a statement on Friday by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade, said the institution will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri.

“The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the education sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined,” Alausa said.

He described the gesture as a profound demonstration of President Tinubu’s empathy, respect, and belief in education as the foundation of national growth.

“President Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development is unwavering and aligns with the path of national renewal championed by the late President Buhari,” he added.

According to Alausa, the university’s renaming symbolises the administration’s recognition of education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and national identity.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to advancing the values of service, integrity, and excellence, principles that he said were exemplified by both Tinubu and the late Buhari.

Tinubu made the announcement during a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC), which was held to honour the late president’s memory and legacy on Thursday.

Key national figures attended the session, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, state governors, federal ministers, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, all of whom paid heartfelt tributes to the late statesman.
