Kashim, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under Bala Mohammed’s administration, conveyed his resignation in a letter dated 21 July, 2025, and addressed to the PDP’s Ward Chairman of Majidadi B in Bauchi local government area.

In the letter, Kashim expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the platform and support he enjoyed during his time in the PDP.

“I write to extend my sincere gratitude to you and the entire leadership of our ward for the opportunity given to me to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which ultimately led to my being honoured with nomination as the flag bearer of the party to contest the Gubernatorial election in the state during the 2023 national elections,” the letter read.

He added that, “I am proud to note that I not only honourably withdrew my candidature to enable His Excellency, (Mohammed) Bala to recontest, but also traversed the whole of Bauchi Local Government even as I discharged my responsibilities as the Secretary to the State Government, to ensure, against all odds and historical challenges of second term candidates wining in the local government, that we delivered and won in virtually all wards.”

Ibrahim, who is a Muqaddas Din Bauchi added “after due consideration, I wish to formally notify you that I have, effective the date of this letter, resigned my membership of the PDP and hope to explore other avenues of seeking the mandate of our people to serve them with the same commitment, passion, honesty of purpose, trustworthiness and above all fear of Allah SWT.”

He thanked the party for its support and wished its members well in their future endeavours.

LEADERSHIP recalled that the Governor Mohammed contested for the PDP presidential ticket during the 2023 general elections but lost.

Following that, Kashim who had earlier emerged as the PDP governorship candidate in May, 2022 primaries honourably stepped down on June 2022 to allow the governor to return and seek for re-election as the governor of Bauchi state.

After Mohammed’s re-election, Kashim was reappointed as the Secretary to the State Government, but he resigned in December 2024.

There is speculation that Kashim may contest the Bauchi State governorship in the 2027 election.
