Rivers Police Rescue Pregnant Woman From Human Trafficking Syndicate

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued a 24-year-old pregnant woman, Regina Sunday, from suspected human trafficking syndicate in Rivers State.

Acting on diligent investigation and intelligence, the operatives also arrested a 28-year-old lady, Sunshine Hart and Kingsley Ekocha, a 38-year-old man, both who were alleged to be members of the notorious syndicate.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the two suspects were arrested in Aba in Abia State.

“On June 24, 2025, detectives extended their investigation to Aba, Abia State, where they arrested two suspects namely: Sunshine Hart, ‘f’ aged 28yrs and Kingsley Ekocha ‘m’ aged 38yrs.

“During the operation, a pregnant woman, Regina Sunday, aged 24yrs, was rescued from the clutches of the traffickers and is currently in protective custody.

“As fate would have it, Regina Sunday went into labour on June 30, 2025, and was promptly rushed to the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt, where she was safely delivered of a baby boy. Both mother and child are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition,” the PPRO announced.

Iringe-Koko added that investigation was ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate.

The PPRO stressed the commitment of the Command to dismantle the notorious kidnapping network and ensuring that those responsible in this heinous crime face the full weight of the law.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reiterated the Command’s steadfast commitment to protecting the public and upholding the rule of law.

Adepoju urged members of the public to continue supporting police operational efforts by reporting all suspicious human trafficking activities and providing intelligence that can aid its investigations in the efforts to eradicate the menace.
