Delegates from the fourth cohort of the MTN-Media Innovative Programme (MTN-MIP) gained firsthand insight into the Huawei giant’s advanced digital capabilities spanning 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing and smart city solutions.

The visit, a core component of the MTN MIP Cohort 4 learning journey, offered participants a rare window into the cutting-edge technologies powering next-generation connectivity and digital infrastructure. It also underscored MTN’s continued commitment to developing digital leadership and deepening strategic collaboration with Huawei, one of its key technology partners.

At the Huawei Innovation Hub, the MIP cohort explored an interactive demo of the company’s latest smart city and power solutions, improved antenna and router designs, and its suite of enterprise-grade cloud offerings.

These innovations, Huawei representatives noted, are central to helping MTN transition from a traditional connectivity provider into a digital enabler, offering integrated solutions to power Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

A highlight of the tour was the live demonstration of an AI-powered video creation tool, an experiential showcase of 5G’s high-speed, low-latency promise. With just a selfie, participants watched as the software generated a high-definition 30-second video using AI avatars, all rendered and delivered within a minute via a QR code, leveraging 5G transmission.

Following the innovation demo, participants attended a knowledge session delivered by Huawei’s technical team, detailing the capabilities of 5G networks in addressing modern digital demands. The lecture covered the transformative potential of next-gen networks to support data-heavy applications such as streaming, autonomous services, remote work, and IoT-driven industries.

The cohort was later taken on a tour of Huawei’s expansive 4,000-square-metre Service Centre, which houses over 850 engineers supporting clients across the telecoms, finance, energy, transportation, and public sectors. The facility includes a 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) that monitors MTN’s infrastructure nationwide, assigning real-time resolutions to network anomalies in accordance with international standards such as eTOM and ITIL.

Additionally, the facility boasts a dedicated DevOps team tasked with customising monitoring systems for client-specific requirements. With ISO27001 certification and 100 percent of staff holding security credentials, Huawei’s Service Centre represents a stronghold for resilient and secure digital operations in Nigeria.

To cap off the eventful day, the delegates were hosted to a dinner graced by MTN’s chief services and sustainability officer, Tobechukwu Okigbo. In his remarks, Okigbo urged the participants to take full advantage of the MIP experience, emphasising the importance of talent development and cross-sector learning in driving MTN’s vision of a digitally inclusive future.

Each delegate received a certificate of participation to commemorate the experience, one that not only deepened their understanding of frontier technologies but also reaffirmed the vital role of partnerships in Nigeria’s digital transformation.
