Population Services International (PSI) Nigeria has unveiled its menstrual health project in six states across Nigeria.

The states include Bauchi, Kano, Lagos, Nasarawa, Sokoto and Akwa Ibom.

PSI, in a statement signed by its technical specialist, Communication and Training Temitope Alfred, said the programme is being flagged off through its flagship Menstrual Health No Wahala (MH-NoW) initiative.

According to her, the programme is leading a bold movement to redefine how menstrual health is addressed across the country.

She said, recognising menstrual health as a public health, gender equality, and human rights issue, the MH-NoW programme is set to break barriers of stigma, limited access, and misinformation, particularly among adolescent girls and young women.

She added that the project aims to expand access to accurate menstrual health education, quality products, and youth-friendly services.

“The initiative also works to improve hygiene and build agency among women and girls, ensuring they manage menstruation with dignity, safety, and confidence.”

The technical specialist also highlighted that the organisation has successfully trained over 300 menstrual health champions, including health workers, teachers, media personalities, and community influencers. These champions will advocate through various means to help reshape public perception around menstruation.

She also added that the organisation would support the local production of affordable, reusable menstrual hygiene products in collaboration with regulatory bodies to upgrade community-level manufacturing.

“Our goal is to normalise the conversation on menstrual health, increase access to affordable products, and create an environment where girls and women can manage their periods without shame or limitation.

“The MH-NoW programme is not only improving health outcomes but also sparking a cultural shift toward greater equity, empowerment, and dignity for women and girls across Nigeria.”
