A former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and director, North East Parliamentary of the disbanded Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. Babangida Nguroje, has expressed enthusiasm over the recently awarded contract for the construction of the N71 billion Gembu-Leep Road leading into the Republic of Cameroon.

Nguroje, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Gashaka/ Sardauna/Kurumi federal constituency of Taraba State, also commended the Tinubu administration for the resumed work on the earlier stalled N95billion Bali-Serti-Gembu road.

In a statement in Abuja, the former deputy speaker further appealed to the federal government, through the Ministry of Works, to consider building the Nguroje -Mayodaga-Kaniyaka road in Sardauna local government, which equally leads into the Republic of Cameroon. This would boost the area’s economic activities and facilitate cross-border trade and relations.

Nguroje had written to the minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, about the stalled Bali-Serti-Gembu road reconstruction and expressed concerns that the situation had caused untold hardship on the people and stalled economic activities in the area.

Weeks after the appeal, the Federal Ministry of Works mobilised contractors who have since returned to the site.

According to him, the construction of the about 100-kilometre Nguroje-Mayodaga-Kaniyaka road project will unlock the area’s vast opportunities and potential, including tourism and other legitimate businesses.
He maintained that the road, when completed, will further open up the state’s potential, rebooting and retooling it for prosperity.

He said unlocking the area’s economic prosperity will also give the people the opportunity to showcase their hidden potential.

He pointed out that the excitement that had greeted the return to the site of the abandoned project and award of contract for the Nguroje -Leap road project will be doubled and unprecedented when the Nguroje -Mayodaga-Kaniyaka road project is flagged off.

He also urged the people of Taraba State and Nigeria in general to allow the current administration ample time to respond to their yearnings and aspirations.
