The chief operating officer of the power station, Ugochukwu Chioke, gave the warning during the 2025 annual stakeholders’ flood sensitisation workshop held in Minna yesterday.

He stated that the permanent solution to flooding in flood-prone areas was for dwellers to keep away from floodplains because compensation might have been paid for them to vacate prone- areas before the dam was constructed.

Chioke suggested that continuous sensitisation had become imperative to prevent communities from returning to flood-prone areas annually after collecting compensations for same lands.

Also speaking the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, NSPCL, Engineer Olubunmi Peters, represented by Hon.Hassan Abdullahi, the consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility for the company, said the workshop aimed to sensitise and educate residents of the communities on water-based activities upstream and downstream of the Shiroro hydro electric power plant.
