Court Fines 73 Over Violation Of Environmental Sanitation Law In Abia

‎A Mobile Environmental Sanitation Court in Umuahia, Abia State capital, last Saturday, fined 73 offenders of the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise and discharged 11 others.

‎The offenders were arrested at different locations across the capital during the July exercise which lasted from 7 am to 10 am.

‎The presiding magistrate, O.C. Ibekwe, who condemned the attitude of the offenders, discharged the 11 persons on legal, health, and compassionate grounds.

‎Addressing journalists after the exercise, the state Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, expressed delight with the conduct of the exercise.

‎”This is a clear evidence that residents of the state are gradually aligning themselves with Governor Alex Otti’s ‘Clean and Green’ vision for the state,” he said.
‎
Speaking also, Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Ijeoma Iheukwumere advocated greater engagement in subsequent exercises.
