Globacom has announced ongoing network upgrade efforts aimed at enhancing the customer experience.

The company disclosed that it has been working nonstop to guarantee that customers nationwide continue to receive good value, particularly in light of the most recent tariff increase that was authorised by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). In order to ensure exceptional network quality for both voice and data services nationwide, the network upgrade has, in recent weeks, entailed the deployment of new base stations to serve new areas and densification to enhance coverage in areas with increasing population.

Additionally, Globacom is moving its fibre infrastructure in a number of areas where network quality has been impacted by nationwide road development. Auchi-Okene, Benin-Ekpoma, Lafia-Akwanga, Minna-Abuja, and Funtua-Gusau are among some of these places.

“We decided, at a huge cost, to relocate the fibres, many of which had been vandalised in several places by uncoordinated road construction activities, in order to bring best-in-class services to customers”, the company revealed.

Given that Glo is on the verge of finishing the rollout of hundreds of new sites nationwide, the exercises bode well for Glo subscribers. Aside from that, the network has already set up thousands of 4G LTE stations in strategic cities and areas nationwide this year alone, and 150 more are about to come on stream to increase the number.

In addition, there has been a significant increase in backhaul capacity via fibre and microwave, as well as a carefully thought-out enhancement to the core network that is operating without a hitch.

The business promised that continued efforts would improve network quality, coverage, and service delivery. Additionally, customers can expect faster data speeds and improved overall network performance.

Over the next year, Globacom plans to install more than a thousand additional sites, with an emphasis on expanding its dependable data reach by adding more LTE stations to the current ones. To increase reliability and offer more reliable service delivery, the company is also concentrating on connecting fibre to several of its hub sites.

By expanding hybrid power and depending more on battery power rather than generators at its locations across the country, Globacom is also aiming to reduce carbon emissions from its operations. This also has a high investment cost.

The telco is nonetheless concerned that intentional sabotage of network equipment continues, even though telecoms architecture has been designated as important national infrastructure. This calls for further effort to stop it in its tracks.
