The Katsina State Government has announced free medical care for all patients diagnosed with typhoid infection across the state.

The decisive step to curb the spread of typhoid fever and ease the burden of healthcare on residents, was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Culture.

The Commissioner of the ministry, Bala Salisu Zango, said five medical facilities have been designated to provide the services.

He named the facilities as General Hospital Katsina, Turai Yar’Adua Hospital, Katsina; General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, Katsina; General Hospital Jibia and General Hospital Funtua.

Zango added that the initiative was part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery and improve public health outcomes, aiming to ensure timely and adequate treatment for those affected by typhoid without imposing financial strain on them.

Speaking on the development, the State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, emphasised the urgency of early detection and care.

“Our priority is to safeguard the health and well-being of our people. By providing free medical care for typhoid patients, we hope to encourage early treatment, reduce complications, and ultimately decrease the incidence of this preventable disease,” he said.

Typhoid fever remains a persistent health challenge in many parts of Nigeria, including Katsina State, particularly during the rainy season.

The disease is often linked to poor hygiene, contaminated water sources, and inadequate sanitation systems.
The state government called on residents to remain vigilant and report early symptoms of typhoid such as prolonged fever, abdominal pain, headache, and general weakness.

Affected individuals are advised to visit any of the designated hospitals for immediate care.

The government also appealed to the public to adopt preventive measures, including regular hand washing, use of clean water, and maintaining good sanitation to curb the spread of the disease.
