Princes from royal families in Northern Nigeria under the aegis of In Kaji Tambura Foundation, have supported Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III’s nomination as the permanent co-chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN).

In a press statement issued on their behalf in Gombe yesterday by Prince Mahmood Aminu Adamu, who is the group’s secretary and holder of the traditional title of Sardaunan Bunun Bauchi, he dismissed the Middle Belt Forum (MBF’s) opposition to the Sultan’s nomination as “weak and inconsistent with the principles of national unity.”

Adamu argued that the Sultan presides over the largest traditional authority in Northern Nigeria, with all emirs in the region under his spiritual and cultural leadership.

The group commended Sultan Abubakar’s legacy of neutrality, peace-building, and inclusive leadership. They described him as a unifying figure who has worked tirelessly to promote interfaith dialogue and national cohesion.

The statement partly read, “We fully and unequivocally support the nomination of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, as Permanent Co-Chairman of the NCTRN. His record of service, intellectual engagement with national issues, calm disposition during crises, and ability to bring people together across faiths and ethnicities make him not only suitable but necessary for the stability and credibility of this Council.”
