Katsina State House of Assembly has raised the alarm over the escalating wave of bandit attacks in several communities across the state, urging the federal government to deploy additional security forces to curtail the violence urgently.

The lawmakers voiced their concern during a plenary session held on Wednesday in Katsina by the speaker, Alhaji Nasir Yahaya-Daura.

Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Khamis, the Dutsinma Constituency member and chairman of the House Committee on Security, brought the matter to the floor through a motion of urgent public importance.

He painted a grim picture of the worsening insecurity in parts of his constituency, citing Makera, Gammo, Karofi, and Dabawa wards in Dutsinma local government area as hotspots of recurring terrorist attacks.

“The attacks in these areas are increasing daily. Bandits have recently killed residents, security operatives, and abducted several individuals. Our people are living in fear,” Khamis said.

He appealed to the federal government to intensify support by deploying more soldiers and security operatives to the affected communities to restore peace and confidence among residents.

While acknowledging the ongoing efforts of the state government in combating insecurity, the lawmaker stressed that federal intervention is urgently needed to complement local strategies.

Several other lawmakers who contributed to the motion echoed similar concerns and called on both the federal and state governments to adopt new security strategies to respond to the evolving threats.

Following extensive deliberations, the assembly unanimously adopted the motion and resolved to forward the request to the state executive for immediate transmission to relevant federal authorities.

The resolution aims to enhance the protection of lives and property across Katsina State, which has witnessed repeated attacks in recent months, displacing residents and threatening agricultural and economic activities.

The Katsina State House of Assembly reiterated its commitment to working with all levels of government and security agencies to restore lasting peace in the region.
