NOA Urges Nigerians To Use US Visas Responsibly

National Orientation Agency (NOA) has advised Nigerians on the responsible use of United States (US) visas. The advisory cautions citizens against misusing their visas by engaging in activities inconsistent with their stated purpose of travel and visa classification.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, the NOA director -general, Mallam Lanre Onilu, said security screening for visa applicants continues even after they arrive in the US.

“US authorities continuously monitor the activities of visa holders, and visas can be revoked while individuals may be deported for immigration violations or breaches of US law,” he said.

He further reminded travellers to declare all excess cash above the legal limit when entering the US and to avoid carrying contraband items in their luggage.

Onilu stressed that overstaying or violating visa terms can lead to deportation or a lifetime ban from future travel to the United States. “Your actions harm the chances of other Nigerians with genuine reasons to visit the US,” he said.

He urged Nigerian students in the US to regularise their visas before expiry. He noted that tourist visas would be denied for individuals travelling with the intent to give birth in the US for citizenship purposes.

Highlighting the US commitment to secure and fair travel, Onilu remarked that the stringent visa screening aims to prevent security threats while promoting lawful travel.
