Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have apprehended two suspected cultists and recovered firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous items during a raid on a hotel in Ikot-Udota community in Eket local government area.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP TImfon John, who disclosed this to Journalists at the weekend said the breakthrough was achieved through strong and believable intelligence.

“The Command was acting on credible intelligence which indicated that an expelled students and dropouts from a certain institution (name withheld) had formed criminal gangs and was engaging in a range of illicit activities including extortion, rape, and cybercrime.

“When operatives raided a hotel (name withheld), the operation led to the arrest of two suspects – Uwemedimo Michael Udah, 29, from Uyo LGA and Prince Emmanuel Amasi-Tito, 32, from Eleme LGA in Rivers State,” the PPRO said.

DSP John explained that during the arrest, operatives recovered one English Beretta pistol with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

She listed other incriminating items recovered from the suspects to include one laptop, two Android phones, an MTN internet router, a cocktail of suspected drug concoctions and three copies of Power-of-Attornies suspected to be stolen.

According to DSP John, preliminary investigations indicate that the gang is led by two individuals, Etieno Gideon James and another suspect known only as “Ale,” who are currently at large.

She said efforts were ongoing to arrest others still at large.
