Peters was buried on Saturday, August 2, 2025, following a funeral service attended by close family members and friends.

A video circulating on social media showed mourners at the interment as the late filmmaker’s body was lowered into the grave.

The service, held in a Christian tradition, was marked by tears and solemn hymns, including the popular “It Is Well,” song which guests were heard singing through their grief.

The 49-year-old celebrated filmmaker died on June 28 in Toronto during a battle with an undisclosed illness. He was known for his significant contributions to Nigerian television and theatre.

Peters began his artistic career with the University of Lagos-based Theatre 15 group before transitioning into television.

He gained widespread recognition for creating the popular sitcom Flatmates in 2004 and later served as the executive producer of its revival, My Flatmates.

He also worked on successful productions such as Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco and Company among others.

Meanwhile Teju Babyface has eulogised the deceased. In a post on his social media handle, Teju disclosed that KP introduced him to Basorge Tariah Jnr and that meeting kicked off his mainstream comedy career that is still waxing stronger after two decades.

“We buried Kayode @kayodepeters1 today. For the record, my comedy career started when KP introduced me to Basorge Tariah Jnr. in year 2000. Up until then, I had been a UNILAG campus comedian with no idea of how to take my act mainstream.

“As was his way, Kayode had somehow somehow met @grandmaster_basorge on the set of a production somewhere and like play, like play, we both piled into the bus headed in the Bariga direction that day to meet up with Bros. Remember, there were no cell phones back then, so the Grandmaster didn’t know we were coming. But as luck would have it, we met him at home, and KP proceeded to convince him that I was the funniest thing since Basorge! And the rest is history.

“Do people die if they will never be forgotten? I think not my brother. You will live as long as people remember you, and for you, Kayode, that means you will live for a long, long time indeed.

“Longer even than many of us who mourn you right now. For how many of us have the gift of connection, cohesion, and humanity like you did? KP, a king among men! BUNOR! FANIATIME! WHEN 2 ELEPHANTS FIGHT, ONE MUST WIN. YOMẸ, YOU WIN. Goodnight, my brother and friend. O di’gba o. #KP,” Teju posted.
