The commissioner also dismissed claims that he got financial inducement to get the drug dealer released.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano yesterday, Dala said he stood for the accused based on the legality in the matter without considering the political consequences.

“I took the decision to resign since the incident occurred and I saw the publications that followed thereafter, which hammered on my integrity, I made up my mind to resign as soon as the report is presented to the governor.

“The allegation of collecting bribe to the tune of $30,000 was also investigated and all the security in the case dismissed the claims as there is no evidence showing that such a thing had transpired.

“More so, it has been confirmed that I have no connection, whether close or distant, with the accused person I stood bail for, nor do I have any dealings in any way with him.

“That was why I decided to resign, for the sake of necessity and integrity of the state and government, and to also continue to support the government in its fight against drug abuse in the state. I thank the governor for the opportunity given to serve, and seek his consent to accept my resignation,” he stated.

The report which was formally presented to Governor Abba Yusuf by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Umar Farouk Ibrahim also confirmed that there was no financial inducement that led the commissioner standing as surety for the accused.

It was also reported that the commissioner voluntarily submitted an application to serve as surety for the defendant in the drug case and there was no bail deposit of N5 million made as alleged.

The report also stated that the commissioner had no prior acquaintance with the defendant.

However, the report said he had violated the state government’s policy that is firm against drug trafficking, abuse, youth criminality and related vices.
