The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to strengthen partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance road safety and security across the territory.

Odumosu spoke during a courtesy visit by the new FCT sector commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, to the NSCDC command at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, yesterday.

Describing the visit as timely and strategic, Odumosu noted that the longstanding synergy between both agencies was crucial in addressing emerging road safety and security challenges in the nation’s capital.

He expressed readiness to provide continuous support for the FRSC, particularly in field operations where personnel face threats from unruly road users.

“Security and safety of all FCT residents is our top priority. We will continue to support and synergise with relevant government agencies to ensure this goal is achieved,” Odumosu said, “Let me assure you that we will be your support system, ready at all times to work with your men on the field to prevent harassment or attacks by deviants and recalcitrant road users.”

He emphasised the importance of multi-agency collaboration, stressing that the prevention of road crashes and promotion of a responsible driving culture should not rest on the shoulders of the FRSC alone.

“Life is sacrosanct, and all Nigerians, including other security agencies, must be involved in driving the campaign for safer roads. As road users, we all have a role to play in maintaining law and order to prevent crashes and safeguard our infrastructure,” the commandant added.

In his remarks, Felix Theman commended the FCT Command of the NSCDC for its remarkable and inclusive leadership since Dr. Odumosu’s assumption of office. He particularly praised his initiatives aimed at providing security support to vulnerable and physically challenged residents in the FCT.

Theman revealed that the FRSC had launched “Operation Restore Sanity” in the territory, aimed at eliminating the dangerous practice of driving against traffic, especially in high-congestion zones. He stressed the need for inter-agency collaboration to ensure the success of the operation.

“To restore order and ensure the effectiveness of this initiative, the FRSC will rely heavily on the support of the NSCDC,” Theman said, “We are fully committed to sustaining and even expanding our strong relationship, and we will ensure this collaboration trickles down to the lowest levels to prevent any form of rivalry or misunderstanding among our personnel.”

The visit featured the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Theman by  Odumosu, symbolising the enduring cooperation between both agencies.
