Farmers across the country are advocating quick implementation of the Post-harvest policy, following the recent Agribusiness Hubs launched by the federal government to curb post-harvest losses.

They said that this policy will boost the growth and development of farm produce. They called on the government to actualise the plan by fast-tracking a policy to mitigate after-harvest losses.

Speaking on this development, a farmer, Alhaji Kaita, said: “We urgently need the implementation of the post-harvest loss policy as climate change is affecting us. The post-harvest policy, if well implemented, will act as insurance for farmers against eventual weather conditions that will affect farm produce.”

Another farmer, Yemisi Ojo, appealed to the government to be inclusive and involve all farmers in the policy implementation.

Recall that the vice president, Kashim Shettima, launched a post-harvest loss initiative in Oyo State last week.

Commissioning the Agribusiness Hubs, Shettima said, the move is to tackle post-harvest losses and boost agricultural growth.

The newly introduced hubs will host over 40 agribusiness ventures, directly and indirectly creating employment for over 100,000 Nigerians and supporting the livelihoods of more than 500,000 farmers, ranging from peasant to medium-scale operators.
