Kogi Police Arrest 582 Suspected Criminals In 7 Months

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye has disclosed that the Command arrested 582 suspected criminals across the state since he assumed office seven months ago.

CP Dantawaye made this known while meeting with members of the Kogi Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by the Chairman of the Chapel, Mr Segun Salami at the Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

According to Dantawaye, this comprises 157 kidnappers, 192 armed robbers, 28 homicide and 38 for unlawful possession of firearms.

He further disclosed that 7 suspects were also arrested for rape, 6 cultists and 168 others for another cases.

The CP pointed out that his Command also successfully dismantled criminal networks and rescued kidnap victims in the state.

He also said that his Command recovered firearms from the criminal suspects including 8 AK 47 rifles, 1 AK 49, 7 locally made pistols, 11 Dane guns, 407 rounds of live ammunition, ten 10 magazines, barretta pistol, seven 7 live cartridges, one Sharon car and 2 Bajaj motorcycles.

The Police Commissioner pledged unwavering commitment to strengthening existing police and media relations to foster a stronger working collaboration and enhance accurate reporting of police activities.

The CP commended the media for its role in shaping public perception and ensuring accountability.

He urged them to remain professional in their role which is critical in building a safer Kogi State.

He also assured of the Command’s open door and accessibility, while urging them to remain professional in their reports and promote harmony in the State.

He urged the media to sharpen their power of observation and report any suspicious activities and movement for prompt action.

Stressing that security is a collective responsibilities, he stressed that all hands must be on deck to achieve a safe and secure society.

He further emphasised the need for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with Journalists, media outlets, and other stakeholders.

Dantawaye stressed that effective media relations were vital for the Command to maintain a positive image, secure public support and showcase its achievements.

He assured that the Command was determined to sustain the collaboration with the chapel, stressing that such partnership was vital for enhancing accurate reporting of incidents in the State.

The Chairman of the correspondents’ chapel, Mr Salami commended the leadership style of the CP, noted that the engagement will foster a stronger working relationship between the police and media, build mutual trust, strengthen security and media relations and promote societal harmony.

He further disclosed that the chapel remains committed to supporting the efforts of the police in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
