Father Of Suspected Kidnapper Killed In Kwara

The father of a suspected kidnapper identified as Alhaji Doti was on Tuesday shot dead during a confrontation with men of a vigilante group at Iyana Share in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the man was shot while trying to block the arrest of his son, Bello Doti, by local vigilantes who accused the son of kidnapping.

According to sources, the deceased was the first to attack the vigilantes with machete while attempting to save his son from being arrested by the security agents.

Sources also confirmed that Alh Doti was shot by the vigilantes in the ensued confrontation.

Kwara State Police Command confirmed the development on Wednesday through a statement signed by its spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi.

The statement confirmed the confrontation between the deceased and the vigilantes which resulted in the death of the former.

“The Kwara State Police Command, under the amiable leadership of CP Adekimi Ojo, confirms a security incident that occurred in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, 12th August, 2025, at Kara Market, Iyana Share, Ifelodun local government area, during a joint police–vigilante operation to apprehend a criminal suspect.

“During the operation, the suspect, identified as Bello Doti, was sighted. While officers and vigilante members were effecting his arrest, his father, Alhaji Doti arrived at the scene and, without provocation, attacked one of the vigilante operatives with a machete, inflicting severe injuries.

“In the ensuing confrontation, the assailant sustained gunshot wounds and was later confirmed dead at a medical facility.

“The injured vigilante is currently receiving treatment, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary,” police said in a statement.

Ejire-Adeyemi further added that amid the disturbance, the suspect, Bello, managed to escape and remained at large.

She stressed that the Command has intensified its manhunt to ensure his swift arrest and prosecution.

The Kwara State Police Command strongly warned against obstructing or violently interfering with law enforcement operations, vowing that such acts will be met with the full weight of the law.

Members of the public were also urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information that can assist in the ongoing operation.
