Ayeni, 34, was ordered to be remanded at the Correctional Service Centre in Ado-Ekiti over the newborn stealing incident at a primary health centre in Okeyinmi, the capital city.

When the matter came up, the prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that there was probable cause to order the defendant’s remand to the correctional facility in Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the defendant is reasonably suspected to have committed the Offence.
Oriyomi added that the defendants were alleged to have committed the Offence, which attracted public sympathy and interest due to the prevalence of child stealing in Ekiti State and was reported on August 4, 2025, against her.

He noted that the offence is punishable under Section 292 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021 within Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District and requested that the application be granted.
Inspector Oriyomi said the duplicate case file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.
