Police Arrest Suspected Member Of Car Theft Syndicate In Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested another member of a notorious car theft syndicate and recovered a stolen vehicle on Wednesday.

Police had few days ago arrested three suspects from the gang over links to cases of stolen vehicles, and they were being interrogated at the Command’s headquarters in Uyo, the State capital.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, DSP Timfon John explained on Thursday, that the arrest followed a diligent follow-up on intelligence.

“Further to a previous report on August 6, 2025, detailing the arrest of a syndicate, operatives of the Command have continued their efforts to recover more stolen vehicles.

“On August 13, 2025, at 1600 hours, the Police action led to the arrest of Oto-Abasi George Ime, a suspect found in possession of a Toyota Camry with registration number BGM 934 DA.

“This vehicle has been confirmed as one of the stolen cars connected to the previously apprehended syndicate,” John explained.

She assured that the Command was intensifying its efforts to recover the remaining stolen vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Police Spokesperson, who reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and properties of residents, vowed that no stone would be left unturned in the process of fishing out and subjecting other criminal elements before the law.

She appealed to the public to be security conscious and report suspicious characters around their neigbourhood for quick intervention.
