According to the calendar, the new season will commence on Friday, 22nd August 2025.

Defending champions Remo Stars will kick off their 2025/26 campaign with a headline clash against 2022 champions Rivers United, in what promises to be a thrilling curtain-raiser on August 22 in Ikenne.

Remo Stars won the 2024/25 NPFL title, claiming 71 points to win their first-ever NPFL title.

The opening weekend will be followed by 18 more weeks of tussle, leading up to the mid-season break from December 30, 2025, to January 6, 2026.

Other match-day 38 fixtures include Rangers International’s clash against Ikorodu City in Lagos, Plateau United and Kano Pillars will do battle in Jos, just as Rivers United will host Katsina United.

Meanwhile, the NPFL is gradually leaning towards the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee and is also seeking new broadcast partners, with the possibility of having both next season.

After selecting some referees for VAR training, the NPFL has directed clubs to upgrade their stadiums to meet the required standard for the use of VAR.
