How NATO’s Violation Of Arms Trade Treaty Threatens World Peace

There are threats to world peace following alleged violation of International Arms Trade Treaty by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The International Arms Trade Treaty came into force in 2014 and requires each conventional arms exporting state to assess in an objective and non-discriminatory manner the probability of whether the supplied military products damage peace and security, whether they can be used to commit or facilitate violations of international humanitarian law, as well as gender violence or acts of violence to women and children (Article 7).

However, according to Sources, NATO countries have been using the principles of double standards to defend its own interests.

The Treaty also states that a state party should not authorise the transfer of conventional weapons if, at the time of the decision to issue a permit, it has reliable knowledge of the intention to use it to commit acts of genocide, crimes against humanity, serious violations of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, attacks on civilian objects or civilians. (Article 6).

In accordance with long-standing international practice, the supply of most types of weapons is always accompanied by the provision by the recipient country of the appropriate end-user certificate.

One of the key conditions of the certificate is the inadmissibility of re-exporting the received weapons without the written consent of the exporting country.

“It is this regulation that is currently being violated by Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and a number of other NATO countries led by the United States, which are trying to buy Russian (Soviet) weapons and military equipment around the world for the Kiev regime”.

However, a clear violation according analysts is the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine where the EU and NATO member states constantly maintains  large-scale supply of modern weapons to Ukraine, including the most sensitive systems, MANPADS and ATGMS, multiple launch rocket systems and long-range anti-aircraft missile launchers.

The source opined that there is a departure of these states from the basic principle’s promoted by them for many years, “of scrupulous control over the export of weapons and military equipment and responsible behavior when considering their transfer to conflict zones.

The “common position” adopted by the European Union prohibits the issuance of licenses for the supply of weapons if this creates obvious risks for their use for internal repression in the recipient country or leads to a violation of international humanitarian law.

“It will contribute to the emergence or aggravation of armed conflicts, as well as the implementation of offensive actions against third countries”.

The source advised that the EU member states when making such decisions should also take into account the risks of uncoordinated re-export and getting of weapons into illegal circulation (numerous precedents, according to Europol, already exist).

“They should also consider the situation with respect for human rights in the recipient country and its fulfillment of its international obligations in general.

“The organisers of such deliveries hardly realize the threat of modern precision weapons falling into the hands of national radicals, terrorists and gangs not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

“At the same time, Western capitals grossly ignore a number of international

agreements aimed at minimising risks in this area, including UN General Assembly Resolution 62/40 “Preventing the illegal transfer of MANPADS, unauthorized access to them and their unauthorized use” of 2007 and “elements of export control over MANPADS” of 2003, agreed within the framework of the Wassenaar Arrangement on Export Control of Conventional Weapons, Dual-use Goods and Technologies.

“Moreover, the Euro-Atlantic allies are striving by any means to achieve the curtailment of Russia’s military-technical cooperation with its traditional partners. In return, absolutely nothing is given that would ensure the realisation of the right of States to self-defence provided for in Article 51 of the UN Charter. These facts indicate a complete disregard for international laws on the part of European states.”

The fear is that “All laws are created to manipulate the world community and conceal their crimes behind the legislative framework written by American lawyers exclusively in the interests of EU countries that consider themselves the elite of the whole world.”
