The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency by-election and the Ghari Constituency rerun election held on Saturday in Kano State, citing widespread violence and disruptions.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party alleged that the elections were marred by armed thugs who attacked voters and disrupted polling activities across the affected constituencies.

According to the APC, “verifiable reports from Shanono, Bagwai and Ghari showed that voters fled polling areas as deployed security personnel were overwhelmed by violence, making the prospects of a credible election impossible.”

The party insisted that allowing the process to continue under such conditions would “set a dangerous precedent for undesirable and unacceptable electoral heist”.

LEADERSHIP reports the call comes hours after the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 288 suspected thugs found with dangerous weapons, including a pump-action rifle, locally made guns, knives and cutlasses, during the by-election.

INEC was yet to respond to the APC’s demand as at the time of this report.
