The management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi has clarified reports on the list of federal hospitals currently offering subsidised kidney dialysis at the approved rate of N12,000 per session, which omitted it from the list.

In a statement issued yesterday by the head of Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Mr. Usman Abdullahi Koli, the hospital said it had been providing the service since 8th January, 2025, contrary to reports that omitted ATBUTH from the list.

According to Koli, 897 patients have benefited from the intervention so far, and the hospital ensures that all consumables are included within the approved rate.

“These services have benefited not only residents of Bauchi State but also patients from across the North-East and neighbouring states,” he said.

He added that, beyond dialysis, ATBUTH Bauchi has been a frontline partner in the federal government’s renewed hope agenda for healthcare delivery.

He said since November 2024, the hospital has implemented the free Cesarean Section programme, covering surgery, post-operative care, medication, and treatment for both mothers and newborns while more than 1,000 women and babies have already benefited.

Koli further stated that the hospital is also among the pioneer institutions implementing the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS), saying since its launch in Bauchi by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, ATBUTH has provided free emergency care for up to 48 hours to over 500 patients.

Koli reaffirmed the hospital’s appreciation of the federal government’s efforts through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in improving healthcare nationwide, adding that as a tertiary hospital strategically positioned in the North-East, it remains fully aligned with the Ministry’s vision of expanding access to affordable, quality, and compassionate healthcare.

“For clarity, ATBUTH Bauchi is not only part of the subsidized kidney dialysis program but is also at the forefront of other national health initiatives directly improving lives. Our commitment remains firm to continue cushioning the hardship of Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable, with the support of the Federal Government,” he stated.
