Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a directive to the new management team of the State’s beloved team, Akwa United, to ensure their return to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
All State football teams, including Dakkada FC and the women’s Ibom Angels, experienced poor performances last season, which led to the dismissal of their management boards.
However, a new management committee for Akwa United FC has been formed, with Mr. Joseph Eno appointed as the new Chairman.
The inauguration of the committee, LEADERSHIP has learned, followed the Governor’s directive for the club to return to the NPFL, emphasising that “a club of Akwa United’s stature belongs in the top flight.”
Recounting the profile of the new committee Chairman, the club described Mr. Eno as a seasoned procurement expert and football enthusiast; a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a rich background in both corporate and grassroots football.
“He retired from Total Energies after 20 years of service and is currently the MD/CEO of CampeGee Hotel and Resort, Uyo,” the statement noted.
Other members include Pastor Ini Edoho, Vice Chairman; Mr. Jimmy Joshua, General Manager; Elder Omon Bassey, Club Secretary; Mr. Festus Akpan, Team Manager; Mr. Mfon Patrick, Media Manager; and Mr. Nsikak Abasi Akpan, Assistant Media Manager.
Additionally, Coach Paul Offor, formerly of Sporting Lagos, has been appointed as Head Coach. Offor, who led Sporting Lagos to promotion in the 2023–24 season, has been tasked with preparing the Promise Keepers for the 2025–26 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign.
He will be assisted by other backroom and technical crew members, including Coach Tosin Adekugbe, Coach Okechukwu Promise, Coach Bassey Akpan (Goalkeeper Trainer), and Coach Akarandut Orok.
