More than 367,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Kano State, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Ambassador Abdu Zango has disclosed.

Zango disclosed this when he received the Kano State Task Force on Voter Registration, led by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, during an advocacy visit in Kano.

The REC commended the state government for constituting the Task Force to support voter registration and urged its members to intensify mobilisation efforts to ensure citizens collect their cards.

He revealed that Kano State currently has over 6 million registered voters, with more than 3.6 million concentrated in the metropolitan local government areas.

Earlier, Waiya commended INEC for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, and called for the creation of additional polling units in Kano State.

He noted that the demand had become necessary following the creation of new districts by the Kano Emirate and the state’s rapid population growth.

Waiya further appealed for more registration centres in hard-to-reach communities to improve accessibility and ensure that no eligible citizen was left out.

He assured that the taskforce would continue to deploy strategies to mobilise residents, not only to register, but also to collect their PVCs.

“This is a civic duty and an essential step towards ensuring active participation in our future electoral processes,” Waiya said.

Both parties expressed confidence that stronger collaboration among INEC, the taskforce, and citizens would improve voter registration and deepen democratic participation in the state.
