Pioneer national vice chairman (North East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Duhu, has refuted recent allegations by political activist Omoyele Sowore, who claimed that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State allocated billions of naira to Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, Duhu described Sowore’s accusations as “scurrilous, defamatory and libellous,” asserting that the claims were not only false but also a deliberate attempt to malign the character and reputation of Governor Zulum.

“These assertions are entirely false, misleading, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to assassinate the character, reputation, and good name of Governor Zulum,” he said.
Dr. Duhu emphasized that under Governor Zulum’s administration, no funds—whether for capital projects or rehabilitation programmes—are disbursed without undergoing strict budgeting and vetting procedures.

He added that all expenditures comply with the procurement laws, relevant regulations, and due process.
“The Borno State Government prioritises the safety, security, and well-being of its citizens, ensuring any reintegration programmes are thoroughly managed and monitored to mitigate risk to the public,” Duhu stated.

Addressing Sowore’s criticism regarding the arrest of certain individuals in the state, Dr. Duhu clarified that the individuals apprehended were involved in unlawful activities that threatened the state’s peace and security.

“These were not innocent bystanders. Any responsible government will act to preserve law and order,” he added.

Dr. Duhu labeled Sowore’s claims as “blatant lies” intended to damage Governor Zulum’s standing, not just within Borno State but nationwide.

He urged the public to be wary of misinformation and called on the media and citizens alike to rely on verified and credible sources.

“There is no empirical evidence suggesting that Governor Zulum is pampering terrorists. On the contrary, he has shown steadfast commitment to the rule of law and the security of the state,” he said.

The APC leader warned that legal steps could be taken against Sowore if he fails to retract his statements.

“Sowore and his cohorts are hereby put on notice: we will not hesitate to take legal action. We will defend the integrity of governor Zulum and the people of Borno,” he said.

He concluded by expressing full support for Governor Zulum and his administration, lauding their efforts in promoting transparency, security, and good governance.

“I and millions of Nigerians stand by governor Zulum and the Borno State government in their commitment to transparency, accountability, and progress,” he added.
