In a post on his official X handle, @officialABAT, the President said he was closely monitoring developments and awaiting a full briefing on the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“Even while in Brazil, I have received reports of today’s (Tuesday) Abuja–Kaduna train derailment. I am deeply saddened by this incident. My heartfelt prayers are with the injured, their families, and all passengers who went through this distressing experience,” he stated.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that the NRC had already commenced remedial action, adding that measures would be enforced to strengthen safety on the nation’s rail corridors.

“I am staying updated on the latest developments and await a full briefing to ensure swift action and support for all affected. The NRC is already addressing the situation, and necessary steps are expected to be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he added.

A passenger train bound for Kaduna from Abuja derailed on Tuesday morning at about 11:09am, shortly after leaving the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident occurred at KM 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.

The NRC, in a statement confirming the development, said the derailment involved its Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS). Its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, disclosed that officials had been dispatched to the site to assess the damage and restore operations.
