The President of the Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Alhaji Laminu, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising agriculture and food security in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the Federation’s membership registration and revalidation campaign in Abuja on Tuesday, Laminu said the government’s policies were helping to boost fish production and strengthen the agricultural sector.

He described the initiative as a “historic milestone” for the Federation, which he said would enhance membership records, improve planning, and ensure sustainable growth.

The nationwide campaign will begin in Abuja before moving to Makurdi in Benue State and Lafia in Nasarawa State, with other states expected to follow in rotation.

According to Laminu, reliable data is vital for effective decision-making, stressing that the Federation cannot afford stagnation or inefficiency.

He also announced a partnership with Wema Bank, which will provide financial support and nationwide data capture for fish farmers and cooperative members.

Under the scheme, members involved in fish farming and processing will receive training, equipment, and access to facilities such as smoking kilns to improve production.

Laminu commended the efforts of executive members, state chapters, and partners from the Ministry of Blue Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and other stakeholders for supporting the campaign.
