The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected burglars and recovered 23 stolen mobile phones, three Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines, and other items, in Gezawa local government area of the State.

The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Umar Aliyu and 27-year-old Sabiu Kabiru, both residents of Gunduwawa village in the LGA, were apprehended on August 7, 2025, by operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) following credible intelligence.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 10 Android phones, 13 keypad phones, three PoS terminals, 17 Opay debit cards, three MP3 players, eight phone batteries, and a power bank.

SP Kiyawa also revealed that the suspects initially confessed to breaking into a business center in Dinyar Madiga Village, Takai local government area, where they claimed to have stolen the items. However, investigators later discovered inconsistencies in their account, raising doubts about the true source of the recovered property.

“To aid the recovery process and identify rightful owners, the Command has directed the display of the recovered items. Members of the public who recognise the items or have information about their ownership are urged to visit the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano, at the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO). Alternatively, they may contact the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) directly via 08063333548,” rhe statement partly read.
