The Principal of Flora Homes International School, Jikwoyi, Abuja, Mrs. Idakwo Cecilia Essien has called for promotion of culture in the school.

Idakwo who made the call in Abuja yesterday, during the school’s annual cultural heritage activity with the theme “, Centre for unity,” said cultural diversity is essential for national development.

She noted that it was only when we appreciate the importance of intercultural interaction, diversity, and inclusion that our collective dream of sustainable development and peaceful co-existence could be achieved.

Essien also said education has to be holistic, since the school came up with the idea that cultural days have to be observed so that it would help the learners to be exposed to the culture.

“I know that if the students at least can observe cultural day once a year, I believe the future will be safe, and knowing what each culture stands for will help everyone to be able to adapt to, and tolerate each other and then be able to live together as one Nigeria.”

She further urged all Nigeria schools should imbibe cultural day celebration because it would make the student understand a different culture and also be able to tolerate each other ‘s culture better

On her part, school proprietress, Mrs. Florence Ubani said the cultural day would help students to know other people’s cultures from other places instead of concentrating on their culture alone because culture is the way of people’s lives, their behaviors, dressings, and rest.

At the event, a member of the BoT, Dr. Ogbonna Uzodinma said Nigerian native language should be made compulsory for both primary and secondary school in Nigeria and shouldn’t be optional as it’s in secondary school alone and that’s the only way we can promote our culture and keep our culture alive.
